Malbec Wine & Grill

A little piece of Argentina in Portals Nous

Mar García

Angus and Malbec, two flagships of Argentine gastronomy and viticulture, call at Mallorca with Cristina Verónica Ionescu, who, with the invaluable support of her partner Eduard Beorgescu, runs a restaurant located a few meters from Puerto Portals and in whose stove Eduardo Bianco recreates the most authentic gastronomy of his country.

Cristina's professionalism and closeness to the room, a fresh pantry that Eduard supplies every morning with the best products and Eduardo's successful creations will satisfy the satisfaction of the most demanding diners who, for sure, will become regular parishioners.

In addition to setting the venue right, the red wine and the cowhide print on the walls and chairs tell us about its two fundamental pillars: the black angus, whose cut presides over the coquettish bar, and the grape variety that gives the establishment its name, malbec, with which the most representative reds of the southern country are made.

At Cristina's suggestion, we opted for Uvas del Sol, the house's malbec: a fresh red with aromas of red fruits that paired wonderfully with the delightful dishes that came out of the Argentine's stove.

We start the culinary journey with a very tasty Creole meat pie, with impeccable frying. The pleasant texture of the filling showed a sliced pickle perfectly seasoned with aromatic herbs. A successful spicy, secret touch from the Chef rounded out the popular recipe.

The unmistakable smell of oregano announced the arrival of the appetizing provoleta with tomato, which we "dip" with crispy grissini. The cherry provided the necessary counterpoint of freshness and acidity to a first-rate, crunchy and malleable provolone: a real delicacy.

It was a spectacle to see Eduardo Blanco in action, brandishing the tasty garlic prawns with brandy while offering us detailed explanations about their careful preparation. The unmistakable smoky paprika wrapped around a juicy, smooth prawn, while a subtle touch of cayenne rounded out a classic of our cuisine magnificently performed by the chef.

After the select assortment of starters came the star of the house: grilled Argentine angus. The succulent ribeye, perfect for knitting, was served with rich homemade fries, a soft roasted potato with sour cream, a light vegetable wok and a creamy roasted garlic. The essential chimichurri, present on all tables, also contributed to the tasting of the tender and juicy meat.

Even with our appetite more than satisfied, we could not resist the emblematic banana and sweet milk pancake; the lemon strip of the pancake aptly personalized the exquisite dessert.

Cristina's wonderful version of Irish coffee, presented in a suggestive martini glass, with the three layers perfectly defined and the cream barely half-assembled, crowned the very pleasant evening.

Our most sincere congratulations to the chef for an excellent job and for his instructive illustrations about the menu. Thank you very much, Cristina and Eduard, for making us feel literally at home; It was a real pleasure to enjoy your cozy place, its magnificent cuisine and, above all, your unbeatable company. It is not surprising that the recognition of your clientele has taken you to the Hall of Fame of the Tripadvisor Certificate of Excellence, after achieving excellence for five consecutive years. Congratulations!
