Hat party at Bodegas Angel

The Gelabert family provides a wonderful evening of leisure and gastronomy

Rafel Calle

On a splendid night this persistent summer, in the cloister of the winery, the Gelabert family—Andreu, Leslie and their son, Andrew—organized a dinner accompanied by a hat party, with prizes for the most voted. Unsurprisingly, given the care and professionalism with which the Gelabert always prepare their events, the result became a very pleasant evening, of those that awaken the desire to repeat.

The dinner consisted of gazpacho, trampó, eggplant stuffed with tumbet and biscuit with ice cream, all very homemade, the vetegales of the orchard of Bodegas Angel, for a menu that paid homage to the best of Mallorcan summer cuisine.

Naturally, the wines of bodegas Angel richly paired every step of the menu, at the choice of diners, Blanc, Rosat and Negre to commemorate the best of our most important native varieties, treated by Andrés, Jr., who commands a team of highly trained professionals to produce wines of the most recommended.

The music was by Paco Sánchez, who with his guitar recalled the era of live music, justmennte before disco music (50 years ago) that ended up eradicating many Majorcan bands, such as the Betas, to which Paco belonged.

As for the hat contest, the winner was Antonia Alomar, awarded a lunch for two at the Café Med restaurant in Fornalux. The second qualifier was Catalina Seguí, a lunch prize at Café Med. The third prize went to Natalia Doggio, with a box of Wine Angel Gran Selecció; fourth place went to Ana Ardura, with an Angel Negre wine box, and the fifth turned out to be for Montse Geli, with a 25% discount for a lunch at Café Med.

Speaking of the wines, Angel's have their own character, very Mallorcan, due to the location of the winery. On the one hand, its very specific characteristics thanks to the proximity of the sea; on the other hand, its terroir, red, called "Call Vermell" rich in iron oxide, and, of course, the Sierra de Tramuntana, which acts as a barrier to the north wind.

Although they also have foreign grapes, the Prensal Blanc and the Black Mantle, queens of the Mallorcan varieties of the region, are responsible for such character and identity and, of course, the protagonists in each of the wines.

Located in Santa Maria (Sancelles road), the winery enjoys large windows, is lined with stones obtained from the pre-planting of the vineyard, and is surrounded by 20 hectares of vineyards. A beautiful setting to celebrate unforgettable events.
