Bodegas Angel and Mallorca Voltors

A perfect party for a great season

The weather had threatened to do its thing for more than a week, however, the storm was benevolent and he decided to withdraw so that on January 24th it would dawn sunny, full of light and a bit hot. Bodegas Ángel, located in Santa María, prepared the last details to celebrate a party in which nothing was lacking.

There was a certain agitation in the air; it was a different day at Bodegas Ángel, a party day in which the hundred invited guests would enjoy the wine, the torrada, the music and some other very special surprise. The objective of the celebration: to raise funds so that the Mallorca Voltors American football team, always sponsored by the Gelabert family, could get enough funds to face a great season.

The purpose of the celebration: to raise funds for the Mallorca Voltors American football team

In the atrium of the wineries the tables had just been prepared, in the roasting area the logs were burned to make way for the caliu needed to roast xulla and lamb chops, and two workers were toiling, with expert hands, to skewer calçots, one hundred at a time, in wires that they would leave roasting over the embers of another nearby fire.

When a horse and a woman dance sevillanas

Oblivious to all the preparations, Isabel Maestre braided, perched on a ladder, the gray mane of Yukatán, a beautiful Spanish horse waiting patiently for the moment to go out onto the sand. “I love to dance” explained the Sevillian woman between gel and hair fixer “and we love horses, so we have prepared a show in which rider, horse and dancer complement each other perfectly, the animal loves it, and the music continues to the perfection".

A fly landed on his jaw and Yukatán complained. He shook his head and listened to what was said about him. Rafael Calle, the horseman and dressage and morphology trainer, immediately joined the group. "Yukatán is ten years old, he is very well tamed, thanks to him we will offer a show in which the guests can see the art of the horse and everything that can be done with these animals."

Yukatán snorted again and earned a loving pat from Isabel. "There, handsome," he said, gypsy. Rafael smiled as he explained that

"Yukatán enjoys a lot, like any being with feelings, he likes music, following the rhythm and giving the best of himself in this show"

In the fire the calçots continued their process. The guests were arriving and little by little they were received by the members of the Voltors and by the Gelabert family. Greetings, kisses, claps, hugs and smiles. The day promised.

The expected show

On the other side of the fence the horse smelled the air, knowing that his time was drawing near. Little by little the guests approached the arena. Some were entertained and amazed watching the process of turning the wires full of calçots, others were looking for a good place to see the dancers. Suddenly the music ripped through the air and Rafael appeared on Yukatán's back, the occasional "olé" was heard before the horse and rider dance.

After giving a master dressage class, the music silenced and Isabel approached the arena, dressed as a flamenco dancer. "She is called Rocío", by Manuel Berraquero, flooded the atmosphere with its first notes, and Yukatán pifted happy to know that it was his turn to dance with Isabel.

The next few minutes were frozen in time. Isabel, Rafael and Yukatán moved together, the rider on the horse and the dancer with both of them. Twists, turns and a lot of art were the protagonists before an ecstatic audience, who enjoyed the dance in silence. When she was wrapped in a pristine white shawl and the music ended, a barrage of applause enveloped the performers.

Kike Martín donates 1.000 servings to the Voltors

Little by little, the diners went to the atrium, to have a drink and a bite of bread and cheese. Meanwhile, Kike Martín approached the Voltors with a hundred kilos of rice. "As a rice cook at Bodegas Ángel, I collaborate with the team," he explained after posing for a funny photo. "In this case, Arrozame is going to donate 1000 servings of rice to the boys, because carbohydrates are very important in their diet."

Víctor Rodríguez, captain of the Voltors team, appreciated the gesture. "This season began in Malaga with a resounding victory and thanks especially to the support of Andrés Gelabert, who organizes this party to raise funds for the team, we will surely be able to continue with more victories," he explained. The Voltors captain did not want to miss the opportunity to also thank Kike Martín for his contribution, as well as Harbor Sports Bar, another sponsor and meeting point of the team.

Beinetti and Gastromed desserts, also with the Voltors

The appetizer was in charge of one of the Gastromed chefs, who prepared more than 200 skewers of beef entrecote with truffle sauce, pine nuts, arugula and Mallorcan chilli. A delight in which the veal was cooked like a tataki, red on the inside and golden on the outside, and it was accompanied by a light fresh black truffle aioli.

The final point was put by Beinetti Desserts, with four spectacular samples of their best cakes: the carrot, the white pistachio brownie, the gluten-free intense chocolate and the always celebrated red velvet. Four samples of the best recipes by Daniel Beinetti and Cristina Llopis, who did not want to miss the opportunity to collaborate with the team.

Calçots, wine, meat and music

After the delicious appetizer skewer came the calçots and romesco sauce and shortly afterwards the roasted meat dishes, neither more nor less than eighty kilos between lamb chops and xulla, all washed down with these wonderful Rosat, Blanc de Blanca, Negre and VS 14 from the wineries.

When the meal was over and a reasonable time had passed to rest it, Andreu Gelabert and Víctor Rodríguez presented what would be the next surprise of the day: boxes of Gran Selección wine, valued at 90 euros, but made available to the public at 60 euros along with a club membership membership, a Voltors cap and jersey. An initiative that was welcomed with applause and very well received by the attendees, who took the opportunity to get hold of such a select wine at such a good price, and incidentally become partners of the team.

The music and dancing, which lasted until late in the afternoon, ended a colorful and joyful party with a common link: having fun and helping the team of athletes at the start of the season.
